What is the difference between a Full and a Junior Member? A Junior Member is someone who is a freshman or first semester sophomore and has a psychology major or minor.
A Full Member is someone who is a second semester sophomore or above, with a psychology major or minor. Full members also have to have at least a 3.0 GPA and have taken at least 9 credits of psychology credits (approx. 3 courses).
The major difference between Junior and Full members is Full members have access to scholarships and other funding from the national Psi Chi organization and are part of the induction ceremony at the end of the semester.
What is considered a second semester sophomore?
We consider second semester sophomores, students who have completed 45 credits hours, either at Kent State or that have been transferred.
What is the GPA requirement?
You must have a 3.0 GPA to become a member. However, this doesn't automatically disqualify you for membership. If your GPA is below 3.0, you will have the opportunity to explain it when you apply.
How much are dues?
National dues are $60 in a one-time payment. Only full members have to pay national dues. Chapter dues are $10 per semester. Both full and junior member are required to pay chapter dues.
IMPORTANT: You must pay your dues before we can accept your application. (It is best to just send in your dues when you submit your application)
What happens at meetings?
Previously we've had presentations on specific topics of psychology such as personality, social, forensic, and relational psychology. We also had graduate school panels and preparation for grad school applications with CV and resume workshops.
For a full calendar of events for this semester, you can check out the Calendar page of the website or be subscribed to our email!
What if I can't make meetings?
We understand that school, work, and personal lives can get busy and complicated, so we do not require attendance to meetings and you will not be penalized if you can't make it. However, we do encourage you to make it to as many meetings as possible, so you can get all the benefits of membership.
Where can I get graduation regalia?
You can buy items for graduation directly from Psi Chi National here.
