Hello, everyone!
Thanks to those who came to our special collaborative meeting with the other psychology organizations on campus, Psych Scholars and Peer Mentor Program! Getting to connect all our organizations just a bit more was awesome! The pizza was definitely a plus, too (thanks, Dr. Hughes!!). We attended a lecture by Dr. Joel Hughes, titled Rule The School: Preparing Effectively For Finals. Dr. Hughes is a professor, Undergraduate Coordinator, and head of Psych Scholars. Some highlights of the presentation: Studying WHY:
Thanks! Cari Historian

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate Rorschach's birthday! We got very creative and tried our had at creating our own inkblots. We deciphered the inkbots and have come to the conclusion that Kent State Psi Chi is full of psychopaths. We all really should have seen this coming... just kidding (maybe). But we still had a great time looking into each others' psyche or at the very least we got a little creative and had some fun!! Below are some pictures of the ink blots. What do you see? Thanks again!!
Marie Secretary Hello Everyone! This week Psi Chi decided to have movie night! We watched The Stanford Prison Experiment on Netflix and enjoyed some popcorn and drinks. Overall, the movie seemed pretty accurate in its representation of the experiment. While we enjoyed the movie from a psychological perspective, the overall consensus of the Psi Chi member who watched it was that what happened as a part of the experiment was particularly disturbing. It is one thing to read and briefly discuss the experiment and its questionable ethics, it's another thing to watch some of the actions of the "prison guards" and experimenters. Whether you watched the Netflix movie or not I have some discussion questions I'd love for you guys to discuss in the comments! 1. Do you think the results would have been different if the participants were female instead of male? Would it have been worse or better? Why? 2. Do you think the experimenters and people in charge should have faced some consequences from the study? If yes, what consequences should they have faced? 3. How do you think you would have acted if you had been a participant? Feel free to answer one or all of the questions or if you have any other comments go ahead and share! Next week we will be having a create your own Inkblot activity in honor of Hermann Rorschach's 133rd birthday. Hermann Rorschach was a Swiss Psychologist who created the famous Rorschach Inkblot test in which patients would be shown a series of inkblots and asked what they saw in the inkblot. This was believed to be indicative of their unconscious mind and could give hints as to their personality characteristics and emotional functioning. Join us Wednesday, November 8 at 7:30 PM in Bowman 223 to take part!! See you guys next week!! Marie |
